Old Business:

Very Blessed Christmas-Evelyn-Everything went really well and organized. Lisa Walton and Evelyn Schneider co-chaired the event again this year. Santa was too busy getting the toys made for the children this year, so we had one of his elves visit the children’s classrooms. Games were run in the gym and crafts done in the Multi-Purpose room. Classroom activities were going on and a snack was provided. This year’s theme was “Little Drummer Boy”. The winner of the decorating door contest was Mrs. Messina’s class. Congratulations!

Teacher’s Luncheons- Palma- Luncheons are going well and the teachers are enjoying some very delicious meals. February’s lunch will be provided by class 2B. A great big thank you goes out to the homeroom parents for providing the meals.

New Business:

Catholic Schools Week- Mrs. Smith-Starting Jan. 27 until Feb. 1, 2013. Mrs. Smith went over schedule of events for the week. The theme this year is “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards”. Each day during the week holds different events throughout the school.

School Safety- Mrs. Smith- Mrs. Smith gave a run down of  the school’s safety procedures from fire drills, weather drills, intruder drills, etc. SVCSS has school-wide plans and each school has specific emergency plans to fit their needs. Protocol for parents in case of an emergency is NOT to come to the school. Children will be kept until released to parents or emergency contact. The school will contact the parents. For more specific information, please contact the school.

Field trips- Mrs. Smith- All classrooms have planned field trips for the upcoming months. Teachers are to get final costs and reserve transportation. Field trips are funded by PTO with the monies raised by fundraisers.

Treasurer’s Report- Jeanne- As of today there is $6, 645.77 in the account with a large chunk allotted for upcoming field trips. We have to watch our spending and the Easter Candy sales needs to be very successful if we are to meet our goals for the school year. Items still needing funding are academic games; First Communion; Fifth Grade Moving Up; Kindergarden tassels; End-of-the-Year event and t-shirts; volunteer reception; Mother/Son and Daddy/Daughter events.

Easter Candy Fundraiser- Palma- Candy sales from Feb. 4th until Feb. 20th. Delivery of candy will be March 11th. This year we will be using Philadelphia Candies.

Pajama Jam Family Fun Night- Tammie- Pajama Jam will be held on Jan 31st from 6-8 p.m. Dancing in the gym and games in the Multi-Purpose room. Tammie is chairing this event this year. Ms. Reimold will be DJing the dance. Homeroom parents are to provide and work the games.

Father/Daughter Dance- Tammie- Shelly Missory will chair the event again this year. Event scheduled for May 17th. More details to follow.

Mother/Son Night- Tammie- Jeanne Atkinson will chair the event this year. Event scheduled for April 19th. More details to follow.

Play for K- Tammie- Event will be on April 6th in the gym of Kennedy Catholic High School. A run down of the event was given by Mrs. Smith. This year a wine and cheese tasting will be on April 5th. This is the SVCSS second largest fundraiser for the year (the car raffle was the first).  More information to come.

Added Items:

March Nominations- Jeanne- Nominations will be accepted in March for April elections. Encourage interested parties to run for positions. Jeanne also wanted to address comments about the fundraisers and why we have them. Tuition covers your child’s education, books and staff. Fundraisers give the extras that continue education outside the classroom and adds fun to the school year. Box tops alone raised approx. $700.00 last year. So every little bit helps.

Baking Committee- Melissa Galaska- if interested in joining in on the fun of baking for events (instead of us asking for cookies), please call the office to give your name and phone number.

Next meeting, date and time- March 13th at 6:30 in the school library.

Motion to end the meeting was 1st by Kim Stephenson and 2nd by Lisa Guzzo.

Meeting adjourned at 7:34 p.m.

Respectfully submitted by- Evelyn Schneider, PTO Secretary
