Alumni Spotlight August 2024

Deacon Michael Scanga (2015)

Deacon Michael Scanga is KCHS alumni changing the lives of many including the current students at our school. He begins his last year of seminary for the Diocese of Erie this year and will soon be ordained a priest. We are blessed that at the end of the past school year he came to speak with our high school students along with another KC graduate, Chris Baker, who is a seminarian for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Michael and Chris touched our school with their inspiring words and talking about discerning God’s will for our lives.

Deacon Michael helped us decide upon the word “Courage” as our upcoming theme for students this new school year at the high school. When he talked with our students in May he expressed to them that as a student here there were key moments in his own story that transformed him spiritually. He was vulnerable with our students and relatable telling them his own experience in these hallways and how when he first began his journey at Kennedy Catholic as a student, he was unsure. He even said at one point as a student his freshman year he did not even want to be here for school, but as his journey progressed as a student here, he made incredible connections and friendships that he believes helped him find his vocation to the priesthood and deepen his faith with the Lord, Jesus Christ.
